Independence Day at Western Institute of Technology
Independence day was celebrated at the institute premises with great degree of enthusiasm by the students. Chief guests of the special occasion It. col. John N. Serrao and his wife Dr. Jessica Serrao were welcomed with guard of honour by ourfaculty Ex. Naik Norbert Rodrigues. Staff and students hailed the nation singing patriotic songs. Tug of war, extempore and elocution competitions were held as a part of this great day.
Animation
Our batches of animation are extremely creative and artistic. Their fine skills of creation were exhibited at Thannir Bhavi beach on 05-08-09 in the form of varied talent using the thin pure white sands of the beach to bring out a rare form of art in what is known as sand sculpture. Their sculpture was distinctly unique. It was a great sight to lookat as the size of the sculpture was very huge.
Students of animation from our Udupi branch showed that they were no less in their skills of sand sculpture on the special day of Independence. They created a fabulous sand sculpture conveying a message to protect this world against the harmful menace of global warming.
Extra-Curricular Activities at Western
Flood Relief:
Western Institute of Technology offers humane touch to the education & training imparted to its students. Service and concern has always been the motto of the institute. Yet another great day of social service of the institute was on 16th October 2009 when 50 students accompanied with 10 faculties visited the worst flood affected part of Karwar district viz. Chandya. An humanitarian aid of Rupees one Lakh fifty thousand for 250 suffering families consisting of rice, clothes, vessels, snacks etc. were distributed. The students shared the pain of the affected people and learnt about the harsh realities of life.
Christmas Day :
Festive mood grabbed our institute during Christmas time as the students enthusiastically began preparing for the special day of Christmas. A grand Christmas Nite was arranged in Balmatta Y.M.P.U. grounds on the 23rd of December 2008. We had programmes from various churches of the city Top dance groups of the District entertained the gathering. We also had Br. James Rosario and team from Kolkatta who delivered wholesome entertainment to the crowd.
World Environment Day was celebrated on 5th June 2009. There was an interaction with students by on the topic "Global Warming Environmental warning" and various activities were conducted for protecting and preserving our environment like planting saplings, awareness regarding health safety and Environment hazards etc.
We also conducted many workshop and first aid programmes in different colleges and leading industries like Mangalore Refineries and Petro Chemicals Ltd. (MRPL), Primacy, New Mangalore Port Trust(NMPT)andothers.
Western Institute of technology organized a two day workshop at the New Mangalore Port Trust on Safety at workplace. The Institute trained the employees in Occupational safety fundamentals and occupational safety at workplace. The motto behind the workshop was to create awareness in health hazards and environmental hazards, identify hazards and eliminate them and also to follow safe work procedures.
Workshop at international Airport,
Mangalore. Workshop was conducted on importance of Health, Safety and environment, Occupational safety and general safety at airport. Chairman of Airport authority, Mangalore, other officers and staff were also present at this occasion.
